Stephanie Foley Davis was praised by the New York Times in her Glimmerglass Festival debut as "a poised, touching Ma Moss" while Opera News said she was "a loving, careworn Ma, warm of voice and presence." She returned to The Glimmerglass Festival last summer to create the role of Mary McCarthy in Jeanine Tesori's A Blizzard in Marblehead Neck. Other notable operatic credits include the roles of Mercedes in Carmen, Emilia in Otello and Kate in Pirates of Penzance with Arizona Opera and Giovanna/Countess Ceprano in Rigoletto with the Nashville Opera.Upcoming engagements include the Cherubino in Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra, where she recently sang the role of Giovanna in Rigoletto.
North Carolina audiences are well acquainted with Ms. Davis, as she has sung principal roles with Opera Carolina (Marcellina in Le Nozze di Figaro and Berta in Il Barbiere di Siviglia), Piedmont Opera (the Sandman in Hansel and Gretel), and North Carolina Opera (Ines in Il Trovatore).In 2009, she created the role of Flo in the World Premiere of Libby Larsen's Picnic, commissioned by and written for the University of North Carolina at Greensboro Opera Theatre. Ms. Davis was featured on An Evening of Carolina Voices with Metropolitan Opera singers Victoria Livengood, Christine Weidinger, Jennifer Welch-Babidge and John Fowler with the Opera Company of North Carolina.
Equally at home on the concert stage, Ms. Davis "had a successful baptism by fire" (Classical Voice of NC) performing the mezzo-soprano solo in Alexander Nevsky at the last minute with the Greensboro Symphony Orchestra and performed the soprano solo in the North Carolina premiere of "Lairs of Soundings" by Dan Locklair with the Fibonacci Chamber Orchestra. She has performed the alto solos in Handel's Messiah, Vivaldi's Gloria, Mozart's Missa Brevis, Bach's Jesu meine freude, select Monteverdi Vespers, Saint Saëns' Christmas Oratorio, and Biebel's Alleluia.
Ms. Davis was a winner of the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions in the North Carolina District and went on to receive an Encouragement Award at the Southeast Region Finals in 2007, and she recently won First Place in the 2012 Heafner/Williams Vocal Competition.She received a Professional Artist Certificate at the A.J. Fletcher Opera Institute at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, where she studied with Marion Pratnicki.There, she was featured as Kate in Dvorak's The Devil and Kate, the title role of Handel's Radamisto and as Mrs. Gibbs in the Southeast premiere of Ned Rorem's Our Town.
