SUMMARY:Glory Denied
DESCRIPTION:Tickets Sold Here!\nApril 11 & 13 – Sloan Theatre\, Greensboro Day School  \nGlory Denied is a deeply compelling opera with achingly beautiful music\, based on the book of the same name by Tom Philpott. \n  \nOn April 11th and 13th\, Greensboro Opera presents the contemporary opera Glory Denied – a poignant saga of America during the Vietnam War. The easy-to-follow opera\, sung in English\, is based on the heartbreaking true story of Colonel Jim Thompson\, America’s longest-held prisoner of war.\nUnited States Army Colonel Floyd “Jim” Thompson\, the longest-held prisoner of war (POW) in American history\, and his wife\, Alyce\, were products of the idealism of post-World War II America. When Thompson was shot down and captured\, they began a journey that changed them forever. \nThompson survived nine years in captivity\, enduring torture and extreme deprivation before he was released. Alyce was left at home with four small children\, and the youngest was born the day after Jim was shot down. Alyce had to learn how to navigate her own captivity within the army bureaucracy while grappling with the expectations and judgments of society. They both survived…but not without great cost.\nExplore the cost of war to an American family and our country’s painful growth in the 1960s and 1970s in this raw\, tragic\, and true story. Get your tickets for Glory Denied now! \n
