Elvira O. Green (Maria) returned home to Greensboro in the summer of 1995 to share her lifelong artistic experiences with the Greensboro community, which included over twenty seasons at the Metropolitan Opera. For over thirty years, Ms. Green’s engagements, in opera, musical theatre, classical concerts, orchestral festivals and masterclasses have taken her throughout the world, including Australia, Japan/Tokyo, Germany, Italy, France, Spain, Portugal, Luxembourg and elsewhere. It is Ms. Green’s honor to sing her signature role of Maria in Greensboro Opera’s first presentation of the Gershwins’ classic Porgy and Bess and to dedicate these two performances to her beloved sister, Thomasenia Green Cotton, who travelled to many of the international venues to see her performances of this role.
